Our inaugural tournament last year had 19 teams play a full fun day of wiffs. This year we have been blown away by the response this early.
Even with a sudden change in venue, we are quickly approaching the maximum number of teams that we can host this year, which happens to be 32.
With still being a few months away from September 27, we have 24 teams already registered, and I don't think we will have a problem getting the next 8. After the 32nd team is fully registered, we will start a waiting list.
Depending on how many teams are on the waiting list, we will try some different things to get everyone who wants to play on a team that day. The last thing we want to do is turn people away from a charity event. Our goal will be to use the space and time we have been given to allow as many people to play while not having teams wait hours between every game. We may do this by merging some teams.(my family has 4 teams of 3 players, we would merge a team to have 3 teams with 4 players to allow for an extra team)
If we get an overwhelming response, we may change the format of the tournament to allow for more teams to play while still giving everyone a minimum of 4 games on the day. It is all about space and time. If we end up having 50 teams who want to play, we will do everything in our power to accommodate all teams, but we may not have the space and time to keep this an enjoyable day for all teams playing. I have played in a few events where I have had to wait for over 2 hours between games, and that is the last thing that I want for anyone coming out.
